What are the best permissions for my files?

By default, all your files belong to your username and group "hosting" so that the web server can read them. It is crucial that you set the correct permissions to your files so that your whole website is account are secure. All files, including php scripts are best in mode 644(-rw-r--r--). This makes them read/writable to you, readable to the "hosting" group (the web server), but also readable to other users on the server. If you want to make your files readable only by you and the web server, please let mode 640(-rw-r-----). This way your files are the most secure and other users to the hosting server cannot read them.
